Traveling with your feet up

"It may be nostalgia for the recently finished holidays, but I would love to be in her place, lying on a suitcase and carefree, legs up, dreaming of my next destination! Where would I like to go? Everywhere!"

Traveling is vital for me! There have been long periods in my life when I couldn't do it, but thanks to my imagination, I have gone everywhere.
I imagined before myself packing a small suitcase, choosing how to dress, always carrying an apple with me and then I was going out the window and flying towards the blue sky. Thank God I really travel now and it's beautiful!
I made many little ceramic creatures with their suitcase and many of them have already flown to distant countries. Now they live in houses that I don't know, but I imagine them to be warm, welcoming and inhabited by free and traveling spirits.
In their hands I often put the image of a landscape, as small as a postage stamp on which I immortalize a sweet memory that I paint with patience and serenity.

Technical notes: realized with red and white clay, entirely hollow, double baking at 960° and 980°, decorated with engobes and enamels.

height 12cm, width 12cm, depth 18cm

The sculpture is hollow.
The face is as small as a hazelnut and modelled by hand.
The girl's skin is left in natural clay, while the coloured parts have been painted with different hues of engobes (slips) in order to create delicate nuances and plays of colour. I really like playing with colours and decorations.
I apply a little enamel and usually it's glazed.
