Ci sono momenti in cui il mondo sembra capovolgersi.
Il respiro si accorcia, l’aria manca, e tutto ciò che conoscevamo perde il suo equilibrio.

Upside Down tells the story of that very moment.

Una nuotatrice è sospesa dentro un cubo di mare, come intrappolata in un piccolo universo d’acqua.
Il suo corpo è capovolto, le gambe emergono verso l’alto mentre la testa scende verso il fondo, alla ricerca di un nuovo orientamento. Accanto a lei anche un pesce segue lo stesso movimento, come se nel mare non esistesse più un sopra o un sotto.

It is an inner ocean — the one we cross when breathing becomes difficult and we must learn again how to stay afloat.

When I lose my breath, I try to keep myself afloat. When the world turns upside down, I search for lightness.
Quando il mondo si capovolge, cerco la leggerezza.

This sculpture speaks about disorientation and strength, immersion and freedom — about the moment when we accept crossing disorder in order to rediscover our balance.

Un piccolo oceano racchiuso in una forma geometrica:
un invito a ricordare che anche quando tutto sembra sottosopra, dentro di noi esiste sempre un modo per tornare a respirare.

Technical notes:

The sculpture is hand-modelled in semi-refractory clay of a pinkish shade with chamotte 0.02.

The girl’s skin has been left in natural clay, while the colored parts have been decorated with engobes and glossy and semi-gloss transparent glazes.

The little face is as small as a hazelnut. The curls are applied one by one and are made of delicate clay strips rolled on themselves.

The sculpture underwent two firings at 980°
