Holding on to a Wish

This ceramic sculpture captures that weightless moment when holding on to a wish is enough to lift us off the ground.

She is suspended in mid-air. Her feet no longer touch the earth and her gaze follows the small wish she holds above her. It may seem fragile, attached only by a slender wire, yet somehow it has all the strength she needs to stay aloft.

Her sweeping blue coat becomes almost a piece of sky, scattered with tiny birds, leaves and roses. More leaves weave through her long flowing hair, as though the woman, the sky and nature were all part of the same story. Everything seems to be reaching upwards, yet the sculpture retains a sense of gentleness and quiet.

Holding on to a Wish is about the things we do not have yet, but still dare to imagine. It speaks of dreams that can support us when we choose to trust them, and of that part of ourselves that keeps looking towards the sky despite the weight of everyday life.

Because sometimes a wish does more than show us where to go. Sometimes it is what keeps us afloat.
