A Dive Between the Pages

Ceramic Woman Reading Sculpture | A Dive Between the Pages

This ceramic woman reading sculpture captures the magical instant when words fade away and imagination quietly takes over. One page turns, the sea suddenly appears, and a tiny fish swims out of the book as if dreams had chosen to become real.

The young woman sits in a relaxed pose, wearing a soft pink dress. Her long braided hair is gathered with a romantic bow, while her thoughtful expression reveals that she is no longer reading the story—she is already living inside it.

The open book becomes a small ocean. Its pages transform into gentle blue waves, and the little fish emerging from them symbolizes the true power of books: their extraordinary ability to carry us somewhere else without taking a single step.

Like every ceramic woman reading sculpture I create, this piece is entirely hand-sculpted without molds. Every fold, every expression and every tiny detail is shaped individually, making each artwork one of a kind. It is a tribute to readers, dreamers, sea lovers and everyone who knows that a good book can become the beginning of an unforgettable journey.

Perhaps this is the greatest gift of reading: reminding us that another world is always waiting just beyond the next page.

Technical notes:

The sculpture is hand-modeled with a pinkish-toned clay.
The girl’s skin remains in natural clay, while the colored details are enriched with engobes and ceramic glazes.

I applied glossy and satin enamels

The skin is left in natural clay, while the coloured parts have been painted with different hues of engobes (slips) in order to create delicate nuances and plays of colour.

The little face is as small as a hazelnut. The curls are applied one by one and are made of delicate clay strips rolled on themselves.

The tiny book, no bigger than a postage stamp, is hand-painted with care.
