Angel of Listening

This little angel does not read to escape,
it reads in order to remain.

It sits on books, as if they were its natural place,
as if stories, words, and quiet knowledge
were its true foundation.

The head is gently bowed,
not from weariness,
but to better listen to what the book whispers.
There is no haste, no proclamation,
only attention.

The wings do not open to fly,
they softly close around the body,
they softly close around the body,
Here, reading becomes meditation,
becomes care,
becomes presence.

This is an angel that invites us to slow down,
to bow our heads just a little,
to meet words
in the most truthful place of silence.

Technical notes:

The sculpture is hand-modelled in semi-refractory white clay shade with chamotte 0.02.
It has been decorated with ceramic glazes.
The little face is as small as a hazelnut.
The curls are applied one at a time and are made of delicate strips of clay rolled up on themselves.
The sculpture is hollow and has undergone two firings at 1020° and 980°.
